Coastal towers

Torre Sa Mora
Since 2009, the regional agency Conservatoria delle Coste has managed the 12 coastal towers identified as key assets of the region’s coastal heritage in the Piano Paesaggistico Regionale (Regional Landscape Plan). The project will enhance the architectural history, building on the indisputable vision for this coastal defence system, following the footsteps of the Reale Amministrazione (Royal Administration) of the Spanish Crown military towers.

In 2012 a further 7 coastal towers have been entrusted to the Agency. These need serious consolidation and restoration. In April 2012, following some complex administrative procedures and challenging technical-scientific groundwork, work to secure the first towers began. While these works are in progress, a study highlighting the recurring features within the Sardinian coastal defence system will be prepared, shedding light on the distinctive features of their history, architecture and landscape.
