CNL – Algeria

The Algerian Ministry for territorial and environmental planning (Ministère de l’Aménagement du Territoir et de l’Environnement ) created the Commissariat National du Littoral in 2007. The CNL implements national policy under law 02, 2002 on the protection and enhancement of shores in general, and specifically of coastal areas. Extending for more than 1 200Km, the Algerian shoreline covers 31 927.41 Km2.
One objective of the CNL concerns raising citizen awareness of shore protection, of coastal areas and the ecosystems that inhabit them. The protection and the safeguarding extends to wildlife and beaches. To reach its objectives, the CNL supplies the assistance needed by local organisations to achieve these activities. It also checks the maintenance and the requalification of marine and land spaces.
