PAP/RAC
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) delegated responsibility for Integrated Coastal Zone Management to the Priority Actions Programme / Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC). PAP/RAC is a key member of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) and coordinates the most important initiatives aimed at sustainable development of the Mediterranean. These include:
- The Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol (ICZM) – the international protocol for integrated coastal zone management which was signed by all Mediterranean countries and the European Union
- CAMP project – deals with large coastal area management programmes which take place in all Mediterranean countries, including Sardinia with Conservatoria delle Coste
- Coast Day – was conceived as a international campaign for the protection and conservation of coasts, financed by the European Union Short and Medium-term Priority Environmental Action Programme (SMAP) and by the World Bank Mediterranean Environmental Technical Assistance Program (METAP)
