Guidelines for sustainable beach management and for mitigating coastal erosion

Un angolo di storia custodito dal parco - Giovanni Cultrera
As part of the Regional Environmental Action Plan (PAAR) - “Integrated communication and environmental education strategy to spread the principle of integrated coastal management” project, Conservatoria delle Coste is drafting a document of guidelines for the integrated management of sandy coasts.
The opportunity was provided by a pilot project in the Alghero coast, which was conducted in cooperation with the Municipality of Alghero and the Capo Caccia Island Plain Marine Protected Area. The Porto Conte Regional Natural Park and several Sassari University professors also contributed to the preparation of the document.
The work will sustain a project promoted by a “Technical-scientific coastal erosion working group” with the aim of identifying appropriate measures to counter coastal erosion along the Alghero coast.
The guidelines for integrated management of coastal zones and their defence from erosion will be circulated to local bodies so that they pursue common strategies in their plans and projects following the principles of environmental sustainability. It is predicted that a convention will be drawn up between Conservatoria delle Coste and the National Association of Italian Councils (ANCI) to circulate the guidelines and involve all coastal municipalities.
The project is entirely funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FESR).
