Adopt a beach, Ideas Competition

Adotta una spiaggia
The “Adopt a beach” ideas competition is aimed at 1st grade secondary school students in Sardinian coastal municipalities. The students adopt a beach within their area with the purpose of looking after it, learning about it, valorising it and making it accessible in a sustainable manner. Students can participate in the competition individually or as a class. The beach adoption project must highlight the problems, history and natural characteristics of the beach, before proposing how to improve and look after it.
The main purpose of the project is to stimulate a new spirit of collaboration between schools and local administrations. The project seeks to harness students’ sense of discovery and storytelling to strengthen each student’s sense of identity and belonging to his or her area.
Submitted projects will be evaluated by the Agency and the first three classes will receive a monetary prize. In the following academic year, the prize will be awareness raising and environmental education activities. First place will also receive a trip to one of the most important nature areas in Sardinia.
The initiative is promoted by the Sardinian Regional Department for Environmental Defence in partnership with the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) - Sardinia. It is financed by “P.O.R. FESR Sardinia 2007-2013 – Stream IV “Environment, cultural and tourism attractions” - Intervention activity lines 4.1.2.b.
